Please note that ERA Computers & Consulting will be referred to as ERACC for the remainder of this document.
ERACC was founded in 1989 for the purpose of reselling and supporting Point of Sale accounting software on the SCO Xenix and other *nix platforms. Since that time ERACC has branched into other areas of the PC reseller arena. At this time ERACC sells complete PC systems, PC parts, PC peripherals and "canned" PC software. ERACC also custom develops software on a contract basis for our clients. ERACC develops software using filePro for Unix, filePro for DOS, filePro for OS/2, as well as non-proprietary development systems from the OSS world. We install premise wiring for small to medium size business networks (LANs) and serial cabling for Unix terminals used in POS applications and/or business accounting systems under Unix. We also install and service telephony cabling for use with VoIP and POTS phone service. ERACC will sell, install and support heterogeneous LANs and WANs with any mix of cabling types, servers and desktop workstations depending on client needs. Visit our on-line store for more details.
ERACC is committed to end-user awareness of eComStation, IBM OS/2, IBM AIX, Novell Netware, Linux (name a distribution), (Free/NET/Open/*)BSD and OpenServer as preferable business operating systems when compared to Windows 95/98/NT/2000/XP/2003/Vista/???. This is not to say that ERACC will not support Windows operating systems and products, we do. However, after evaluating the Windows line of products we have determined Windows operating systems are immature and unstable when compared to the other products we offer. This opinion may change in the future but when compared to Unix with its' 15+ year head start and in all it's various flavors the Windows line of operating systems has to do a lot of "catching up" to reach the level of stability in Unix. When compared to OS/2 the Windows operating systems are not as backward compatible nor as stable as OS/2 in it's latest incarnation eComStation.
As of now the Windows Vista operating system is available. This version is to be the "panacea" for all the ills plaguing the Microsoft product line. In our opinion the past, broken promises of a panacea from Microsoft do not hold out much hope this will be true. We will be staying on top of the press articles and technical site articles to see where Microsoft is leading the end-user this time - truly "The Yellow Brick Road" another "Highway to Hell" or perhaps somewhere in between?
With the proliferation of Open Source and related products ERACC is staying current with product lines that will offer Open Source solutions for businesses and individuals that desire these. In our opinion the Open Source movement is a promising solution for guaranteeing no one company is able to dominate (or continue to dominate) the PC market in the future.
