Accounting and Point of Sale (Linux, Unix)

ERACC offers Unix and Linux systems preloaded with Accounting and Point of Sale applications for "Mom and Pop" up to SMB and large sized companies. The Point of Sale applications fall into Closed Source Software and Free Open Source Software categories. Our offerings are custom designed, value added systems that have all the components necessary to run an Accounting office and/or a Point of Sale shop. If you are interested in a complete Accounting or Point of Sale solution from ERACC please contact us. The software we will preload is shown below.

Free Open Source Software

LedgerSMB - Available from ERACC on FreeBSD unix or Linux.

LedgerSMB uses a web based front end with a database back end. The web front end means the Accounting and Point of Sale "terminals" can be hardware running any operating system that has a supported browser. This would include "terminal" systems running Microsoft operating systems. One may run thin clients that boot from a Linux server and load only the software needed for an individual user. In most cases a graphical user interface (GUI) like X and a browser is all that is needed to run LedgerSMB in a thin client from a Linux server. As of October 2008 the recommended browser by ERACC is Firefox.

As with all Free Open Source Software, LedgerSMB has an active community where one can go for support. Paid support options are available for LedgerSMB if desired.

ERACC will configure a system running LedgerSMB for Point of Sale with a server and sales workstations or for general accounting use with a server and workstations. For very small shops the server / workstation can be all on one PC. Please contact ERACC for a quote.

Closed Source Software

NolaPro - Available from ERACC on Linux.

NolaPro is a feature rich, closed source accounting system for Point of Sale or other typical business accounting tasks including inventory tracking and payroll. Although NolaPro has a closed license NolaPro is free to use as a basic package or one may purchase low cost add-ons from Noguska LLC, the developer of NolaPro. Noguska has "free" and paid support options to cover the needs of most if not all NolaPro users. One paid option of interest to many is the QuickBooks Converter that will convert most QuickBooks data since 2005 with the exception of QuickBooks Online and QuickBooks SimpleStart.

ERACC will configure a system running NolaPro for Point of Sale with a server and sales workstations or for general accounting use with a server and workstations. For very small shops the server / workstation can be all on one PC. Please contact ERACC for a quote.

Quasar - Available from ERACC on Linux.

Quasar, developed by Linux Canada, runs on Linux and provides general accounting. Quasar has Point of Sale as an add-on. Linux Canada originally offered Quasar as an Open Source product. It is now Closed Source but one can purchase a source code license and get the source code for modification if one desires.

ERACC will configure a system running Quasar for Point of Sale with a server and sales workstations or for general accounting use with a server and workstations. Please contact ERACC for a quote.

Passport - Available from ERACC on Linux.

Passport Software was a RealWorld accounting software Value Added Reseller with long-term source code licenses to RealWorld code. When RealWorld was purchased and the new owners exited the Unix market Passport Software continued to work with the RealWorld code and rebranded it. Passport Software also ported the original Unix code for RealWorld accounting modules, including Point of Sale, to Linux. Thus offering a path into the future for RealWorld customers that were abandoned by RealWorld's purchaser.

Passport is a traditional Unix, modular accounting system for medium size or larger companies. ERACC does not recommend it for typical micro-businesses, "Mom and Pop" stores or small businesses. Please contact ERACC for a quote.
