About ERA Computers & Consulting
ERACC was founded in 1989 for the purpose of reselling and supporting Point of Sale accounting software on the SCO Xenix and other *nix platforms. Since that time ERACC has branched into other areas of the PC reseller arena. At this time ERACC sells complete PC systems, PC peripherals and some "canned" PC software. ERACC also custom develops software on a contract basis for our clients. ERACC develops custom solutions using non-proprietary development systems from the Free Open Source Software (FOSS) world. ERACC installs premise wiring for small to medium size business networks (LANs) and serial cabling for Unix terminals used in POS applications and/or business accounting systems under Unix. ERACC also installs and services telephony cabling for use with VoIP and POTS phone service. ERACC will sell, install and support heterogeneous LANs and WANs with any mix of cabling types, servers and desktop workstations depending on client needs. Visit our on-line store for more details.
ERACC is committed to end-user awareness of eComStation, IBM AIX, Novell Open Enterprise Server (successor to Netware), GNU/Linux (find a distribution, we like Mageia), FreeBSD, NetBSD, OpenBSD and OpenServer as preferable business operating systems when compared to Microsoft's Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows NT, Windows 2000, Windows XP, Windows Server 2003, Windows Vista, Windows Server 2008, Windows 7, (What's next?). Since this is our firm belief we do not normally sell Microsoft products, although we will make exceptions for client requests. This is not to say that ERACC will not support Microsoft's operating systems and products, we do. However, after evaluating Microsoft's line of products we have determined Microsoft's operating systems are poorly designed at the core, immature and unstable when compared to some other operating systems. This fact may change in the future but when compared to Unix with its 15+ year head start and in all its various flavors the Windows line of operating systems has to do a lot of "catching up" to reach the level of stability in Unix. One of the "dirty little open secrets" in the IT industry is there are basic Microsoft Windows design flaws that will never be fixed without a complete rewrite of the Microsoft operating system line. So far Microsoft has not shown an interest nor a willingness to fix this.
As of now the "Windows 7" operating system is available. This version is to be the "panacea" for all the ills plaguing the Microsoft product line. In our opinion the past marketing hype, in other words broken promises, of a panacea from Microsoft do not hold out much hope this will be true. We will be staying on top of the press articles and technical site articles to see where Microsoft is leading the end-user this time - truly "The Yellow Brick Road" another "Highway to Hell" or perhaps somewhere in between?
With the proliferation of Free Software, Open Source and related products ERACC is staying current with product lines that will offer Free and Open Source software solutions for businesses and individuals that recognize the value of these solutions. In our opinion the Free Software and Open Source movements are promising solutions for guaranteeing no one company is able to dominate, or continue to dominate, the PC market in the future.
