bww bitwise works GmbH progress update

Tue, 20150310 - 08:31 -0600

*bww bitwise works GmbH progress update February 18, 2015
***

This is the fourth beta release of Firefox for eCS (OS/2) version 24. It
contains some UI fixes (makes the "Clear Recent History" dialog and most
recent sites' thumbnails on the new tab canvas work again) and makes
XUL.DLL finally loadable into high memory.. Also this release uses the
new GCC runtime (version 4.9.2) which significantly reduces the size of
executables and DLLs and the memory footprint of the running application
(by about 5-6 megabytes).

The CHANGES.OS2
https://github.com/bitwiseworks/mozilla-os2/blob/FIREFOX_24_8_1esr_RELEASE_OS2_Beta_4/widget/os2/CHANGES.OS2
file contains more detailed list of changes.

The README.OS2
https://github.com/bitwiseworks/mozilla-os2/blob/FIREFOX_24_8_1esr_RELEASE_OS2_Beta_4/widget/os2/README.OS2
file contains software requirements and detailed installation instructions.

*IMPORTANT NOTICE*

 1.

If you find a bug (which is likely), please create an issue at the
    issues page https://github.com/bitwiseworks/mozilla-os2/issues.
But before you create a new issue, be sure it is not already
reported by searching through the existing ones using the Search
field at the top of this page.

 2.

When Firefox crashes it creates a trap report that may contain
useful information for the developers. These reports are saved in
    |.TRP| files created in the directory where |firefox.exe| is
installed. By default these reports contain only basic information.
In order to make them even more useful (and therefore make a fix for
your problem much more likely) please do the following:

      * Install the latest EXCEPTQ runtime from
        home.earthlink.net/~steve53/betas/
        home.earthlink.net/%7Esteve53/betas/ (currently, this
        one
        home.earthlink.net/%7Esteve53/betas/exceptq-7.11-shl-2014-03-03.zip
        is the latest).
      * Install the Firefox symbol files by downloading the
        |.symbols.zip| archive from the link below and unzipping it to
the same directory where you installed Firefox.
      * Make Firefox crash again and attach the resulting |.TRP| file to
        the issue describing your problem.

Apache OpenOffice for eCS (OS/2)

Tue, 20150210 - 02:10 -0600

Apache OpenOffice for eCS (OS/2) 4.1.1.1 GA

St. Veit an der Glan, Austria, February 10, 2015 — 1 month after our
Apache OpenOffice 4.1.1 GA, we are now proud to present the 2nd GA
version of 4.1.1.
This GA is rebuilt with our latest compiler. With this compiler we
were able to reduce the memory footprint significantly. This should
bring more stability on some systems.

The GA version includes english, german, italian, french, spanish,
dutch and russian language pack. And of course this version comes
nicely packed in a wpi.

Apache OpenOffice is the free and open productivity suite, consisting
of several mighty applications, such as Calc, Writer, Base, Impress
and several more. Apache OpenOffice is compatible to the leading
commercial productivity suite.

Download Apache OpenOffice 4.1.1.1 GA from:
https://www.dropbox.com/sh/hd9a9sjr8jszw16/AAC_iXq4PdV4tRuAlAigbfRia?dl=0
The password to download the file is: bww

You need only one complete wpi for your preferred language.
If you want to install an additional language you need only the
language wpi for the new language.

For additional installation information, please read the
readme_aoo.txt file. The file can also be found in the
directory from the download link.

To fill a bug please use:https://issues.apache.org/ooo/
If you create a ticket, please also set your ticket to block ticket 118923.

If you like Apache OpenOffice, please pass by our online shop at
www.bitwiseworks.com/shop and donate for Apache OpenOffice for
eCS(OS/2). These donations support the ongoing development and
bugfixing efforts.

FtpServer version 2.2

Fri, 20150206 - 04:21 -0600

The latest version of FtpServer (which is of course an FTP server) can
be downloaded from

ftp://pmoylan.org/FtpServer/ftpser2.2.zip

If desired, source code can also be obtained from the same directory.

The latest changes are improvements to the utilities LoadPRM and
StorePRM, used to back up user permissions:
- support the option of multiple INI files;
- better wildcard support;
- PRM files may be in different directory;
- option to use TNI instead of INI files.

DFSee 12.3 released; Performance improvements

Sun, 20150201 - 08:21 -0600

DFSee version 12.3 has been released, with performance improvements and fixes.

It is a MINOR release, with several small fixes and enhancements, but
most of all, a HUGE performance improvement for file recovery.

Searching for normal/deleted files has been sped up by a factor of 100
or more for most filesystems, by restricting the search to areas known
to contain directory information (including Inodes, Fnodes, MFT-records)
Instead of searching for several hours on a large volume, it will find
all the files in existing directories within a few minutes.

Using the '-d-' option or 'Search Outside Dir/Fnode/Inode/MFT area too'
checkbox will revert to the older much slower search method, but will find
ANY file, even if it is not inside the currently present directory areas.

DFSee is a very powerful disk-utility with disk partitioning,
filesystem and disk analysis, some file recovery and UNDELETE
and smart imaging or cloning of partitions or complete disks.

PSPRINT (Enhanced PostScript print driver) v30.905 released

Sun, 20150125 - 09:18 -0600

PSPRINT.DRV version 30.905 (preview release 5) has been released.

www.altsan.org/os2/printing/

PSPRINT.DRV is an experimental new version of the OS/2 PostScript printer driver. Besides a number of tweaks and fixes compared to the IBM driver, PSPRINT also introduces support for TrueType font embedding.
PSPRINT includes all fixes and updates from the ECUPS driver, plus a few additional fixes of its own. New in this release:

* Printers which use ColorModel for defining the colour mode should now
correctly print in colour from applications like Apache OpenOffice. * The default URL page of driver properties no longer points to a defunct
IBM site. (This change does not affect existing printer objects, only
newly-created ones.)
* Various even more minor tweaks.
