bww bitwise works GmbH progress update

Fri, 20150724 - 07:48 -0600

*bww bitwise works GmbH progress update July 24, 2015*

In the last couple of week we have been working on the tasks below.

* Firefox
* SWT/Eclipse
* VirtualBox

*
Firefox*
The fifth beta for Firefox is online now. Please see Firefox 31 ESR <https://github.com/bitwiseworks/mozilla-os2/releases/tag/FIREFOX_31_8_0esr_RELEASE_OS2_Beta_5> for the complete announcement and download information.
This is a big step forward because the official Mozilla team dropped OS/2 support from the main development line between versions 24 and 31 and in this release we carefully restored it back including all previously existed OS/2 features. We also ported new Firefox code to OS/2 and fixed some old bugs. This includes reviewed JavaScript support where we finally fixed infamous crashes of Firefox on websites with heavy JavaScript usage and generally improved JavaScript performance.
One of our goals for Firefox 31 was to enable sound support again. For this we hired Myung-Hun KO to add his libkai to Firefox. Unfortunately some sound support is still not working, as we could not enable FFMPEG support completely. The reason for this is that Firefox itself doesn't support FFMPEG library completely in version 31. In version 38, which is now in ESR state as well, this support is complete. Because of that we decided to leave Firefox 31 ESR after this beta and move on to Firefox 38 ESR. This will bring us at such a current browser level we haven't been able to have for a long time.
If you are interested to see the progress on Firefox, then please have a look at Firefox for eCS (OS/2) <https://github.com/bitwiseworks/mozilla-os2>

*
SWT/Eclipse*
If you are interested to see the progress on SWT/Eclipse, then please have a look at Eclipse (SWT) for eCS (OS/2) <https://github.com/bitwiseworks/eclipse.platform.swt>.

*
VirtualBox*
We are forming a new team to port the latest VirtualBox Host to eCS (OS/2). Right now we are in the negotiation phase with developers. The SVN/wiki and trac are already partially done. We reused the existing one from netlabs.org. If you are interested to see the progress of this port, then please have a look at VirtualBox for eCS (OS/2). <trac.netlabs.org/vbox>

INIServe updated to version 2.6

Wed, 20150722 - 03:01 -0600

INIServe has just been updated to version 2.6. You can get it from
ftp://ftp.pmoylan.org/software/iniser2.6.zip
or from Hobbes.

INIServe (freeware, open source) is a daemon that enables remote editing
of OS/2 INI files. You install the server on the machine that has the
INI file(s), and a suitable client -- either the one supplied in this
package, or one that you write yourself -- on another machine. That lets
you perform remote management of applications that take their
configuration data from an INI file.

The reason for this release is to fix an error where command lines
longer than 1024 characters were being truncated. The error first came
to light when members of a Major Major mailing list were being
accidentally deleted from the list.

filesystem and disk analysis, some file recovery and UNDELETE
and smart imaging or cloning of partitions or complete disks.

Change in the Warpstock Europe 2015 schedule for audio stream listeners

Thu, 20150604 - 16:29 -0600

Duo to last minute logistical issues, Lewis Rosenthal from Arca Noae, LLC cannot make it to Warpstock Europe in person.

Lewis Rosenthal will be presenting via Skype. However, David Azarewicz, another principal in Arca Noae, will be present at the event.

Because Lewis Rosenthal is in New York, the schedule has been modified to accommodate his time differential.

For people wanting to listen to the audio stream, please visit the updated program:

For more information concerning the audio AND video streams visit:

Audio and possible video stream for Warpstock Europe 2015...

Sun, 20150531 - 12:33 -0600

On the 6th and 7th of June 2015 in Munich, Warpstock Europe 2015 will be organized by the Dutch OS/2 foundation. Sponsored by Arca Noae LLC.

If you can not make it to the event you can always tune in to the audio stream. For more information how set this up please visit:
www.warpstock.eu/en/agenda/live_audio_stream.html

One reason for not waiting for the video's/audio tracks to be put onto Youtube is because during the live broadcast, you will be able to ask questions via IRC! Again see above link for details how to access the IRC channel.

Last week I was approached by Udo Schneider from Munich who has offered to setup a video stream at Warpstock Europe. We are still working out details!

We will send a new press release it that happens. But the first place where you can find details of where you can follow such a video stream will be placed on the above URL!

Hope you can tune into the audio/video stream!
Please take into account the time difference!

Last day you can book your Warpstock Europe 2015 access WITH lunch....

Sun, 20150531 - 10:32 -0600

Warpstock Europe 2015, the OS/2 conference organized by the Dutch OS/2 foundation and sponsored by the OS/2 only company Arca Noae LLC, will be held in Munich on the 6th and 7th of June.
For more information visit the website www.warpstock.eu

You can reserve your Warpstock Europe 2015 *with* lunch until tomorrow
18:00 Berlin time (1st of June)!

You can *not* pay for Warpstock Europe access at the event itself.

Again its not possible (according to A&O hostels) to book your lunch when you arrive at the event.

You can book your access via the website of Arca Noae:
https://www.arcanoae.com/shop/warpstock ... 15-access/

I have talked to A&O hostels and tickets for access to Warpstock Europe can be sold *WITHOUT* lunch until the 3th of June.
I need to let the hostel now how many visitors are coming so they know how much coffee and tea for during conference they need to provide.

Hope to you see at Warpstock Europe 2015 in Munich.
