WarpSans extended sizes v1.00 released
WarpSans (Extended Sizes) is an unofficial extension to the "WarpSans" OS/2 bitmap font which adds a number of larger sizes.
Installing this file, WARPSANS.FON, will add 10- and 11-pt sizes of both WarpSans and WarpSans Bold to an OS/2 or eCS system. (11-pt is only available under 120dpi resolutions, normally 1024x768 and up.)
These larger sizes are useful when using very high-resolution screens (especially on some notebook computers) where 9-pt WarpSans font may be too small for comfortable reading.
To take full advantage of the larger WarpSans sizes, you can set your desktop scheme to use "10.WarpSans" or "11.WarpSans" for icon text, menu text, and window text. As a bonus, doing this seems to activate an interesting undocumented WPS feature: when the window text is set to 10 point, all of the standard WPS properties notebooks will automatically change to 10 point WarpSans as well! (This does not, however, apply to the new pages inserted by XWorkplace and/or various other WPS extensions.)
Available at:
www.altsan.org/creative/fonts/
or on Hobbes.
Note: This is not related to my Workplace Sans font. WarpSans is a bitmap (screen) font, and is not enabled for use with applications like Mozilla which use FreeType for font support.

Short status on USB development
The fact that it has been quiet does not mean that nothing happened:
in fact a lot of work has been done in particular on USBD.SYS and
USBEHCD.SYS.
I am no longer on my own: Wim Brul (the famous author of usbecd, the generic
USB control driver) has joined in and is working on getting
isochronous transfers (webcams and other devices with a steady data stream)
to work with EHCI (USBEHCD.SYS) and David Azarewicz (the developer of ACPI
support for OS/2) has had a close look at the rest of USBEHCD.SYS.
I have been working heavily on USBD.SYS in order to improve device attach
behaviour on bootup and also to eliminate some Trap D's that popped up when
I changed USBD.SYS to dynamically allocate memory for the USB device
configuration data.
We believe to have fixed the EHCI problem that has been haunting me since
version 10.185. David will do some stress testing on USBEHCD.SYS (he needs a
working and fast EHCI for his everyday backup use). I have fixed a couple
of shortcomings in USBD.SYS. Now's the time to do some extended testing.
We'll release new drivers when we will have gained enough confidence.

Java (OpenJDK) version openjdk6_b27_ga5
Java is a very popular sophisticated programming environment. Applications written in the Java language are run inside a virtual machine (Java Virtual Machine, JVM) which provides a nearly identical behavior on all platforms that have a JVM implementation available. This "write once, run anywhere" approach means that developers can support a multitude of platforms while only having to maintain one code base. For users, availability of a current Java for OS/2 and eComStation means access to a huge number of existing applications.
For more information about Java, see:
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Java_%28programming_language%29
Previously, Java had been made available for OS/2 and eComStation by IBM, Golden Code and Innotek. However, new versions with many changes and improvements have been released since then and current applications require a current JVM implementation. The new project will port a current JVM to OS/2 and eComStation.
For information about the project and its status, please see:

Status and release of eCS 2.2 beta and final product...
In the second week of April Mensys will release:
* The new updated eComStation demo CD based on eComStation 2.2
* eComStation 2.2 German and English will then be out of beta and
released as a final product.
A beta of the English beta product will follow. The hold up of this
beta public is to make the transfer of the from the IBM USB host
controller drivers to the newly updated drivers. The keyboard and mouse
driver are already finished. There is currently still being worked on
the USB host controller (these communicate with the USB controller
chips in your computer).
In eComStation 2.2 ACPI has been switched on by default when
eComStation is not installed in a virtualmachine such as Virtualbox or
Virtual PC. This will enable eComStation to boot on modern hardware with a much
higher degree of success. This will also resolve the TRAPS/hangs on
loading screen01.sys.
Also in eCS 2.2 the Panorama graphics driver has been upgraded to
provide much better performance on modern hardware.
A lot of drivers such as IBMKBD.SYS, DANIS506.ADD, AMOUSE.SYS and
UNIAUD have been updated to work better with ACPI. Some updates have
been to fix suspend/resume issue's.
The current eComStation 2.2 beta is basicly complete and being tested
to work out the last installer issue's.
YUM/RPM is included but can be installed as an optional package. Its
not required.
CUPS has also been integrated in eCS to have more up to date printer
support on eComStation.
